Agora

In Ancient Greece, the “Agora” was a central meeting place for community members.  It featured public forums for ongoing conversations, as well as an exchange for the sharing of resources.  AEA PD Online proudly sponsors the Agora, a 21st century digital counterpart to the Greek meeting place.  In this online space, different communities can create a venue for social learning and all its benefits, including access for online conversations, professional development events, and sharing of resources.

Where are the Agora communities?

To centralize the communities, help with awareness and marketing, and encourage cross-pollination, the Agora is hosted on one platform.  Currently, that platform is the AEA PD Online statewide Moodle server.  The Agora can be accessed at http://agora.aeapdonline.org.

Can anyone visit the Agora Communities?

Absolutely. Iowa Educators are welcome to visit the communities in the Agora, join in the conversation, or share ideas. First time visitors who do not have an AEA PD Online Moodle account will need to create one. For assistance, contact Shelley Christensen (schristensen@aea11.k12.ia.us)

How can an organization or group create a community in the Agora?

AEA PD Online oversees day-to-day operations of the Agora, including, establishment of new communities, technology support, user access, and marketing.  To secure community space in the Agora, first read "The AEA PD Online: Agora Policy Statement". The policy statement outlines
  • The process for securing a community in the Agora
  • Acceptable use policies in the Agora
  • Community expectations and responsibilities.
Interested groups or organizations, can then fill out the application for AEA PD Online: Agora Communities located below.
